I-71/670 Construction Zone

Attention Drivers:

While traveling through the I-71/670 construction zone, you will notice that the highway lanes are slightly narrower than you are used to. Highway lanes are typically 12 feet wide, however, some lanes in the construction zone will be 11 feet wide with a one-foot space between the outside lane and the barrier wall.

Narrowing these lanes allows construction crews to work safely while traffic is moving in the nearby travel lanes. The concrete barrier wall is a protective measure for both the driver and construction crews. Please follow the posted speed limit and use caution when driving through the construction zone.

Network of Employers for Traffic Safety in partnership with the U.S. DOT, offers free online resource to battle distracted driving and improve employee safety

NETS has partnered with the U.S. DOT to offer a free comprehensive toolkit to help companies address distracted driving and improve the driving safety of employees, employee family members and the members of the community in which the organization operates. The theme of this year’s campaign is “Focus360°… Getting there safely is everyone’s business.” The DSWW materials are designed to support employer efforts to initiate or sustain a corporate mobile device policy and to increase awareness on behaviors that contribute to distracted driving-related incidents. The campaign’s materials go beyond what can be done as drivers to reduce distracted driving and also consider the roles and responsibilities of being a safe passenger, pedestrian and cyclist. “I applaud NETS for making this valuable resource available to companies and organizations across the country. New Study Emphasizes Life Saving Beneifts of Traffic Safety Cameras

Texas A&M study highlights benefits of Traffic Safety Cameras

Intersection safety cameras at hundreds of Texas intersections reduced red light running crashes by 25 percent, including a 33 percent reduction in T-bone crashes. This information was released in a new study done by the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M University. Researchers examined more than 11,000 crashes as intersections with traffic safety cameras to determine the technology reduces crashes.

“These findings show clearly that red light cameras offer significant safety benefits,” says Troy Walden, the author of the TTI study. “Most important, they help prevent the most severe and deadly type of intersection crashes.

The Ohio House has passed HB 99 that proposes the statewide ban of texting while driving. AAA has taken the initiative to organize a rally to draw attention to the fact that the ball is now in the Ohio Senate’s court. Joint sponsor of HB 99, Rep. Rex Damschroder is the official sponsor of the rally. The rally will be on the south lawn of the Statehouse at noon on Thursday, Sept. 22^nd, the week the General Assembly reconvenes after summer recess. The noon start time intends to catch downtown workers out on their lunch hours & allow TV news to air the rally live on their noon shows.

According to the organizers, opinion polls have been showing that the majority of Ohioans want texting, and even phoning, while driving restricted by law. Please share this notice with anyone & everyone you think might be able to come and/or to spread the word further. In addition please consider a follow-up letter to the editor of your local newspapers.
