About the Coalition
The Franklin County Safe Communities coalition works to reduce traffic related injury and death in Franklin County. We are the oldest and largest traffic safety coalition servicing our community. The coalition is made up of law enforcement, medical professionals, trauma programs, engineers/planners, traffic safety professionals, injury research programs and community organizations. Members partner on a variety of projects to provide traffic safety education, improve the built environment, change policy, and improve safety for all modes of transportation in our community.
Coalition Committees
The Safe Communities Coalition has 7 committees that serve as work groups to advance projects in specific traffic safety areas. Safe Communities Coalition Committees include:

Columbus Areas Pedestrian Safety Task Force – works to increase walking and biking reduce pedestrian and bike related injury and death

Franklin County Fatal Review Board- the board reviews all fatal crashes occurring in Franklin County and develops countermeasure recommendations to prevent future crashes of a similar manner

Impaired Driving committee – works to prevent motorists from driving distracted or alcohol impaired through innovative programs, awareness campaigns, education and enforcement.

Motorcycle Safety committee - works to increase awareness of motorcycle safety issues among motorcyclists and general motorists through education, awareness campaigns, and promotion

Safety Belt committee- works to gather safety belt use data and improve the county safety belt use rate through awareness campaigns, events, education and policy.

Somali Traffic Safety committee -works to identify and address traffic safety concerns unique to the local Somali population through community assessments, awareness campaigns, education and training.

Teen Driving Initiatives committee- works to improve safety belt use, prevent impaired driving and develop safe driving habits in teens through peer led education programs, policy changes and parental involvement campaigns
